Understanding the purpose of your pelvic floor and core every day.
We understand the challenges of a hectic schedule which is why we won’t add more tasks to it. We will not be asking you to do a bunch of kegels lying down.
First, it is not functional meaning we typically are not having symptoms while lying down. We will make sure to help guide you in incorporating your pelvic floor and core throughout your daily activities. This makes it possible to create positive and everlasting change.
Tailoring your treatment plan based on your symptoms and goals, we will ensure that you will find a deeper connection to the purpose of your pelvic floor and deep core!
Meet the team
Hi, I’m Dr. Megan!
I am a native of South Carolina graduating from the College of Charleston but moved to Florida while gaining my Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. After practicing many years in Florida, we moved back to Charleston where I created my dream career, Rome Physical Therapy.
Why Women's Health PT?
While in school, my mom was diagnosed with pelvic pain after being passed from doctor to doctor without any tests to explain her symptoms. Turns out, it was scar tissue from her cesarean deliveries. How many women go to physical therapy after childbirth? LESS THAN 5%!
It was that moment in time when I found myself compassionately interested in Pelvic Health within Physical Therapy. After going through many Continuing Education Courses, I realized I too had experienced some pelvic pain and discomfort and realized a giant gap in treatment for women with pelvic floor dysfunctions. I have continued my research and training in Pelvic Health and obstetrics across the country! Currently, I am privileged to guide women by reconnecting them to their body in order to decrease pain, dysfunction and even fear!
My Philosophy?
It is important to understand what is going on but more importantly- WHY did it happen in the first place. I believe in receiving noticeable results within 3-5 visits while identifying self autonomy for you to help regain control over your own life! I believe functional treatments that you can use in your everyday life rather than lying on your back making me do the work! It's your body. You need to understand what's going on and TOGETHER we can fix it!
Hi, I'm Dr. Allison!
I am originally from Rochester, NY where I earned my BS and Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Nazareth College of Rochester. After furthering my knowledge and education, pelvic health had become a new passion. It brings a whole new light to physical therapy!
Why Women's Health PT?
After dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction of my own, I realized how important education is for women, especially in the prenatal and postpartum community. The reason why I got into PT was so people can do what they want and not be restricted with movement. Now fast forward to pelvic floor PT… I realized just how much women need this kind of PT! Women should be able to run and jump or laugh and sneeze without peeing on themselves! I feel people should be able to do what they want with their kids without pain or taking a bunch of medications! I have a very strong passion for pelvic floor PT and look forward to continuing to serve and empower the women of the Lowcountry.
My Philosophy?
I use a whole-body treatment approach with emphasis on function to help patients achieve their goals and restore their independence. I love helping women better understand their bodies and return to activities they never thought they would be able to do again. I emphasize function. If you like running, let's look at running. If you are having issues lifting your baby, let's lift your baby! I like looking at the whole body to help with day-to-day activities from a holistic approach!
Hi, I'm Dr. Jenny!
I have practiced in Overland Park, KS and St. Louis, MO before relocating to Summerville, SC for my husband's job. I got my bachelor’s degree at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS (Rock Chalk Jayhawk) and my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, KS (go Spires). I am a physical therapist and a professional figure skating coach. I have interests in figure skating, dance, running, kayaking, and hiking.
Why Women’s Health Physical Therapy?
My first physical therapy job out of school challenged me to take on pelvic floor cases. After training, further education, and mentorship I discovered the importance of caring for the pelvic floor and my passion developed. My second job in St. Louis, MO elevated my skills and helped develop my philosophy for pregnancy and postpartum care. As a mom, I can truly attest the importance of pelvic floor therapy. I believe that all women should be able to do all activities without pain , discomfort, or leaking. I have a strong passion for pelvic floor physical therapy and believe that women should not have to live with or think their symptoms are normal.
My Philosophy?
I believe that everyone has a story to tell and everyone should be heard. I believe in the whole body approach and finding out the reason WHY things happened. I love helping women achieve their goals and return to the activities they need and love to do.
Hi, I'm Dr. Mary Ann!
I am from outside of Atlanta, GA. I was a 3-sport athlete in high school and an athlete in college as well (Go Clemson Tigers!), and during my own experiences with injury and rehab, decided I wanted to be a physical therapist! Pelvic health came on my radar while I was in PT school at the University of Missouri. After graduating, I achieved certification in women's health through the APTA, including becoming a Board-Certified Women's Health Specialist (WCS).
Why Women’s Health Physical Therapy?
In PT school, pelvic floor anatomy was taught in one single lecture, barely a blip in the grand scheme of the three-year program. When I was experiencing some hip pain that was affecting my running and I could not "fix it" with my orthopedic knowledge, seeing a pelvic floor PT was suggested to me. It was SO eye-opening to realize this central, integral structure of the body was so often overlooked and under-treated! I became more invested in learning about the pelvic floor, and especially the importance of empowering women with the knowledge of how the anatomy works and what they can do to maximize their function. Many women are under the impression that incontinence, pelvic pain, back pain, etc are unavoidable, especially after having children. But this is just not true! Talking about what is "common but not normal" is so crucial, and I am so passionate about spreading pelvic health education and awareness.
My Philosophy?
Let's talk about your history, your day-to-day activities, and where you want to be! No subject is off-limits and nothing is TMI, I want to hear all of your concerns so we can work together to achieve your goals.
Hi, I'm Miss Amanda!
I am originally from Pennsylvania and moved to South Carolina to pursue my Bachelors degree from the University of South Carolina. I then gained my Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in St. Augustine, FL. I have been practicing with the pediatric population in pediatric clinic-based and early intervention throughout the southeast and have truly gained a love for not only helping children, but the whole family system.
Why Pediatric Pelvic Health?
While working with the pediatric population in the clinic and in-home, I am frequently presented with questions on what the best potty training methods are, how to help a child with constipation and withholding, and what to do when concerns aren’t being taken seriously by a child’s medical team.
After going through many Continuing Education Courses and confronting my own personal bowel dysfunction, I realized this was something I dealt with throughout my own childhood. Currently, I am privileged to guide children and families by guiding them through effective potty training strategies and addressing underlying dysfunction to improve independence and reduce anxiety and fear around toileting.
I believe that all children should be able to use the toilet regularly without fear, anxiety, or discomfort and that each parent should feel empowered and confident in helping their child achieve these milestones.
My Philosophy?
I am passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children who struggle with pelvic floor dysfunctions and helping parents navigate potty training in a child-led, developmentally appropriate way. Issues with toileting can deeply impact a child's quality of life, from their physical comfort to their emotional well-being. By specializing in this area, I can provide targeted interventions that not only address the physical challenges but also help children regain their confidence and participate fully in their daily activities. My dedication to understanding the unique needs of pediatric patients and my commitment to continuous learning in this specialized field drive me to pursue a career where I can offer compassionate, expert care that has a lasting positive impact on both the children and their families. I believe both the parent and child need to understand their body and this routine and I feel strongly about working together as a team to address challenges.
